The festival organizers have unanimously dedicated this year’s Laceno d’Oro Audience Award to Avellino’s own esteemed educator and cultural advocate, Franca Troisi
“There was no proposal or debate—it was a common, unanimous decision. Franca Troisi has been a vital figure for cinema enthusiasts in the city and a dear friend to the Laceno d’Oro festival. Her contributions during screenings were always insightful and illuminating. She often voiced questions and reflections on films that others kept to themselves, showcasing her culture and intellectual freedom,” stated Antonio Spagnuolo, President of the Laceno d’Oro International Film Festival.
The Audience Award for Laceno d’Oro 49 will bear her name as a tribute to her invaluable role in Avellino’s cultural and cinematic scene. Troisi, a co-founder of the Centro Donna Association, has long been a driving force behind Avellino’s cultural landscape through her involvement in the film program “Visioni,” which has been inspiring audiences for over thirty years.
This dedication is both a natural and necessary gesture, an honor filled with emotion, in remembrance of someone who was a passionate spectator and a soul of rare sensitivity.
“For my generation, having the privilege of knowing Franca Troisi has a profound significance: her passion and critical drive in discussions, particularly on cinema, were a pivotal part of my journey as a never passive viewer,” added Artistic Director Maria Vittoria Pellecchia. “It’s essential to honor the memory of those who have been so influential for a community, as she was for Avellino. Dedicating this award to Franca is a wish for all Laceno d’Oro spectators.”
The recipient of the “Franca Troisi” Audience Award for the “Laceno d’Oro 49” section (feature films and documentaries) will be chosen, as in the past three editions, by the Laceno d’Oro’s Pop Jury, which also selects the popular award for “Spazio Campania” (dedicated to films set or produced in the Campania region).
The Laceno d’Oro International Film Festival will take place from December 1 to December 8 in Avellino. This year’s program, still under finalization, will once again be filled with screenings, discussions, and events. Franca Troisi will not be sitting in the audience to share her thoughts with us, but she will still be with us.
