feature films – Laceno d’oro awards
Sometimes a whisper is more audible than a shout: it compels you to listen more closely. If cinema is about giving form to emotions and states of being (love, fear, joy, sorrow, fatigue), then the form of this film is a whisper. Perhaps all it takes is a man with a camera, a few stray cats, a staircase, and a storm to address the most universal and yet common questions. And it is precisely because the film never aspires to answer these questions that it becomes a discreetly present companion, as time passes and carries with it segments of life. Kawabata once wrote: “If cosmic time flows at the same speed for all men, human time is different for each individual. Time flows the same for all human beings, but each man moves within it at his own rhythm.” And what about cats? The award goes to a film that has taken the time to find its own rhythm within cosmic time: The Cats of Gokogu Shrine by Kazuhiro Soda.
short films – “Gli occhi sulla città”
“Quando a Terra Foge” is awarded Best Film for its amazing ability to convey, through an intensely cinematic language, the essence of the place where it was created and, above all, the deep relationship between humans and nature. While some dig into the mountain, a cow gives birth to a calf, because nature is always stronger. This film not only tells us a story, but successfully plunges the audience into a universe where time is at the heart of the narrative. It urges us to slow down, to live, to think, and, above all, to remain present with what is shown to us, making us forget about its very nature as a short film. Each frame, like a painting, and its evocative soundscape summon a sense of suspended time, allowing us to rediscover a deeper dimension of existence. “Quando a Terra Foge” is a poetic experience not measured in minutes but in emotions: a work that makes us feel the largeness of a breath transcending its format through its pictorial vision.

The art direction of 3MWH stands out for its ability to enrich storytelling, providing strength and coherence to directorial choices that find essential support in the artistic vision. The return to nature, contrasted with the industrial world, is conveyed through a visually powerful message thanks to the careful use of refined props, evocative costume choices, and meticulous attention to aesthetic details. This work goes beyond visually interpreting the director’s vision, demonstrating extraordinary attention to detail and revealing a level of care and sensitivity that lie at the very heart of high-level art direction.
The Red Couch Pictures Award 2024 goes to Cianuro for its ability to authentically and inquisitively illustrate the dream of a group of young people from 1970s Basilicata. Against the suspicion of their fellow villagers, they sought to push the limits of a rural Southern Italy to the rhythm of prog music. With archive materials and contemporary footage, the film gives voice to marginal stories celebrating the beauty of those who, despite living on the fringes, left an indelible mark.
