Presentation of the book “Le Fondazioni Film Commission” (Morlacchi Editore, 2024) by Daniele Corvi and Fabio Melelli – meeting with the authors and Maurizio Gemma
In recent years, Italy has witnessed the exponential growth and development of Film Commissions, institutional bodies operating at the regional level, primarily tasked with attracting audiovisual productions to their respective territories. However, the duties of Film Commissions, which are regulated differently across regions, are not limited to this crucial aspect. These entities are also responsible for significant functions in the professional training of personnel operating in audiovisual productions, in addition to the promotion, including tourist promotion, of the territory.
In fact, their functions inevitably link back to the concept of Film Tourism (or Cine-tourism), which is essentially the tourism induced by the success of films and television series, leading legions of cinephiles to visit the locations they loved on the big and small screen.
This volume seeks to analyze the characteristics and functioning of Film Commissions, comparing them, in particular, with the phenomenon of Film Tourism. Through extensive references to film history and significant testimonies from authoritative industry professionals, the aim is to understand whether Film Commissions and Film Tourism are two sides of the same coin or not.
